Things could get pretty wild in the Ozarks, especially after the Civil War when notorious bushwhackers
raided the countryside. Here's a picture of our great grandpa Jimmy Bilyeu. Family legend has it that he is
taking an oath at gunpoint to be sworn in to the vigilante group the bald knobbers. Though they began
with good intentions, the bald knobbers eventually gave in to corruption. The group disbanded when three
of its members were hanged for murder on the square in Ozark, Missouri in 1889.
